Fall Flounder Fishing Tournament 2021 to be sponsored by Sharkbanz
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Sharkbanz™ is hosting the Fall Flounder Fishing Tournament 2021, a deep-sea fishing tournament Saturday, Oct. 16, 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Deep-sea fishing is a big interest for both tourists and experienced anglers alike
and SharkbanzTM wants to support that interest with its first fishing tournament.
The tournament will take place in the deep waters about 15 miles from the coast of the Charleston Harbour and is also being sponsored by Coastal Angler Charleston, a magazine dedicated to deep-sea fishing information and education.
The one-day fishing tournament to celebrate the end of the deep sea fishing season will also feature “Sharkbanz Fishing,” a new fishing weight that incorporates Sharkbanz’ magnetic technology to repel sharks that may come close. The sinker helps prevent sharks from stealing bait off the line and getting accidentally hooked.
Captain Mark Phelps, the owner/operator of Shore Thang Charters, is enthusiastic about the event and how it can be held without the interference of sharks while also protecting them.
“As a deep-sea fisherman who loves to fish for fun as well as for competition, I love the idea of
being able to fish without sharks,” Phelps said. “I don’t want to hurt sharks but I also don’t want them disrupting my lines, taking my bait or possibly getting hooked by accident. This time of year a lot of fish that migrate to warmer waters will be filling up closer to the coastline and sharks would likely be lurking to do the same. This will be a great time to put it to use.”
Nathan Garrison, one of the cofounders of Sharkbanz, wanted to find a way to protect people as well as sharks in the water, so they came up with SharkbanzTM.
“This whole concept of Sharkbanz came into being because I love surfing but was getting
nervous about hanging out in a shark’s natural habitat for so long unprotected. But I’m a
conservationist and don’t want to harm sharks either, so I developed a product that can do both.
Making people feel safe and comfortable in the ocean while not disrupting marine life or the
ecology of the ocean is the main part of our mission. ”
The “Fall Flounder 2021” tournament is for angler teams consisting of participants ages 14-80.
Specific contest rules and more information regarding this event can be found at www.sharkbanz/fallflounder.com.
There will be four categories of competition and the winning team in each will receive a $1,000
cash prize plus a season’s supply of Sharkbanz FishingTM magnets, with all profits from the
tournament will go toward Shark Stewards, a shark protection/conservation non-profit that
Sharkbanz supports.
